Cristiano Ronaldo and company has made it to the final after defeating Denmark by 1-0 at home ground. The Navigators have qualified for the fifteenth edition of UEFA Euro 2016 championship as winner of Group I on 8th October 2015. Winning goal from Moutinho took Portuguese into the finals which will be played in France next year. Portugal have played 6 edition of Euro championship which means they will now play the seventh championship of UEFA Euro.
Portugal Qualified as winner of Group I After Defeating Denmark
A draw would have been enough for the Navigators too book a place into the finals, but the first international goal of Moutinho in four years made it easier. The way Portuguese were playing like they were very desperate for win or a draw. Thanks to goal from Joao Moutinho who fired an incredible goal, defeating three defenders and goalkeeper.
Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score, but the captain is happy to see his qualified for the final of Euro 2016. Portugal became the sixth team to qualify for the finals via qualification round.
Bendtner was the main threat for the home side. He also hit the woodwork after the interval, but it was all Portugal from there on. He continued to cause the Portugal defence all sorts of trouble and came close to breaking the deadlock just seconds after the restart.
After playing seven games in qualification round, Portugal have won six of them and suffered one defeat. The only team of Group I that didn’t drew against any of their group rivals. The navigators collected 18 points in seven games, scoring nine goals and conceded four [as on 9 October 2015].
Northern Ireland also qualified: Not only Portugal, Northern Ireland also qualified for finals on same day. They qualified as winner of Group F. This is the first ever qualification of Northern Ireland in UEFA Euro championship.
