UEFA Euro 2016 is the fifteenth edition of European championship which will be hosted in France. The 24 best men’s national football teams will play this competition after qualifying from qualification round. Being host nation, France have automatically qualified for the finals and the remaining teams will qualify via qualifiers. This is the first time in the history of this championship, that total of 24 football teams will play UEFA European championship. Defending champions Spain will be looking to defend their title. Start Date: 10 June 2016
End Date: 10 July 2016
The first game or you can say the opening match of EURO 2016 will be played on 10th June 2016. Host nation France will begin the competition. Group stage games will last for 22 June. From 25th June, knockout phase [round of 16] will be played among 16 teams. Quarter final dates are 30 June, 1, 2 and 3 July. On 6 and 7 July, semi finals will be played and final on 10th July 2016
In order to host the finals, four bids came forward in the names of France, Italy, Turkey. The fourth bidders were Norway and Sweden as joint bidders. But in the end, France won the hosting on 28th May 2010. Based on votes, France received total of 43 points out of total 104 votes.
Final draw date: The final draw of 24 national football teams will be held on 12th December 2015 at Palais des Congres de la Porte Maillot in Paris. All teams will be categorized into fix groups from four pots.
Team squads: Each and every team have to submit a list of 23 men footballers out of which three must be goalkeepers. The list must be submitted at least ten days before the kick off of the Euro 2016.
Mascot: The official mascot of EURO 2016 was unveiled on 18th November 2014. The mascot featured a half boy and half super hero named as “Super Victor”. The name was selected by public votes.
Slogan: “Le Rendez Vous” is the official slogan of European Championship which means “is much more than a reminder of dates and venues.” The chairman of Euro 2016 organizing committee, Jacques Lambert said “UEFA is sending out an invitation to football fans throughout the world and to lovers of major events, an invitation to meet up and share the emotions of an elite level tournament.”
